Docs4ECM inserts documents into ECM systems by using CMIS interface. However, for some destinations, like SharePoint, we use proprietary API calls. This enables support for a wide range of ECM systems. Users can define multiple favorite locations, even on separate ECM systems, they publish to. Also, they have the ability to browse folders in destination document libraries and thus upload documents to specific locations. Users are given the possibility to attach metadata to documents they are uploading, for example specify invoice amount into one of the document properties if it is defined. For fast upload, documents can be sent to ECM system, to a default location, without entering metadata. Keyboard shortcuts in application help further increase speed and productivity of users.
Application settings regarding document destinations, favorite locations, document types,
and other application settings are all kept in Windows Registry under key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ITSistemi\ Docs4ECM.
If you wish to configure application settings
for multiple users Active Directory Group Policy can be utilized in a way that a user logon script
is created that imports these settings once the user logs in Windows.
General steps for this are:
1. Deploy Docs4ECM application to all user’s computers
2. Configure application on one computer the way you want to configure it for a group of users.
3. Export the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ITSistemi\ Docs4ECM on disk
4. Create a GPO in Active Directory that imports exported registry file using a logon
script to users where application was installed.
Please note that if any destination uses Basic authentication, users still need to enter
their own usernames and passwords in application configuration since we do not store this in
Windows Registry but we rely on Windows built-in Credential Manager accessible through Windows Control Panel.

At minimum, Docs4ECM supports the following ECM platforms: CMIS interface – Alfresco, EMC Documentum, Nuxeo Sharepoint API – Sharepoint 2007, Sharepoint 2010, Office 365 Other ECM platforms that provide CMIS interface may work fine but we don’t test them. However, customer support is still available for these other platforms if the platform properly implements CMIS functionality. You can test this by using Apache CMIS Workbench application.
